Challenge #59--Optional Theme: CHOOSE YOUR FAVOURITE COLOUR(S)...May 7th - June 3rd

Hello everyone and welcome to the Path of Positivity Challenge Blog! It is the first Monday of the month and time for our new challenge to begin.

We have just entered the fifth month into our year long study of colour. Every challenge we have in 2018 will be dedicated to the theme of colour. Each month we will focus on a particular individual colour grouping (blue, red, yellow, etc.) or on a specific colour collection (pastels, metallics, etc.). Since colour is so important to our everyday lives, we thought this would be an interesting Path to explore.

In January, I presented a brief essay on how we are affected by colour, its impact on us, the symbolism of it, and the psychological effect it has on our everyday lives. If you are new to this series and would like to review this essay, or you would simply just like to refresh yourself on its details, you can find it by clicking HERE and scrolling down to the Title, "Theme Ideas for 2018".

Right now, it is time to get on with the details of our newest challenge. This time around, for Challenge #59, the optional theme* is that you get to Choose Your Favourite Colour(s) to work with! Here is what you need to know...

The Basics

While you can find out ALL the information you need to know in order to participate in the challenge by checking out the 'Challenge Details' tab at the top of the page (or by clicking HERE), here is a refresher of the basics.
  • ALL entries must be positive, inspirational, motivational or encouraging in some nature.
  • *Each month there will also be an OPTIONAL theme to follow. Participants must follow the optional  theme in order to win the prize for Most Inspirational. If you choose to follow the theme, please follow the instructions below to ensure that you are considered for this prize.
  • ALL entries that abide by the general rules of the challenge, will be eligible to receive the Random Prize.
  • For both prizes, you can make any sort of project you'd like (i.e., scrapbooking page, card, tag, mixed media, digital, etc.). In fact, you don't have to create a project at all. You may just have something to say that is motivational or encouraging in some way, or a written passage that expounds on the nature of the theme. Project, written passage or both! It is completely up to you.

Now that the basics are out of the way, how about we get on with the details for Challenge #59.

Challenge #59

Optional Theme:
CHOOSE YOUR FAVOURITE COLOUR(S)

So far in our exploration of colour this year we've spent some time working with shades of blue, red and yellow. We've also explored the colour grouping of pastels. Later in the year we'll continue our journey by delving into oranges, greens, purples, along with the colour categories of neutrals and metallics. However, for this challenge, we're leaving it all up to you.

What is YOUR favourite colour or are there a combination of colours that you really like? If you're anything like me, choosing your favourites might just be harder than you think! Depending on the day or even my mood, my favourite colours might change. One day I'm passionate about red and the next day I might be jonesing for purple. Talk to me later in the same week and I might just be seeking out shades of blue. When it comes to combinations of colours, I have the same problem. I love the stark contrast of black and white with some red thrown in. However, I also love deep shades of pinks and yellows together and there are so many more! Are you like me, changing your favourite depending on your mood or do you have a consistent favourite colour or combo? Perhaps, you are passionate about a particular palette!

This challenge, you get to Choose Your Favourite Colour(s) to work with! Whether you choose to work with a single colour, a duo or maybe even a particular palette, it is up to you. You can also use some different colours if you'd like but please be sure that if you would like a chance to win the prize for the Most Inspirational Creation, over half of the colours in your project must be based on your Favourite Colour(s)! You can choose to fill in your image(s) with your favourite colour(s), and/or they can be in your choices of papers and embellishments. Just make sure that the majority of your project focuses on the colour(s) that you love the most. We can't wait to see how you explore the theme in your designs!

If you do follow the optional theme, be sure to add FT after your name so that we include you in the draw for the prize for Most Inspirational. Please note that you will also need to let us know somewhere in your post (written in a sentence right next to the link up for our challenge is fine) exactly what your Favourite Colour(s) happen to be. Without this information, you won't be eligible to qualify for the MI prize. Additionally, though completely optional, we'd also love to find out how your Favourite Colour(s) make you feel, if you'd like to share that with us. What kinds of feelings do these colours evoke in you? You can write a sentence or two in the body of your post, write a sentence at the bottom of your post next to the link up for this challenge, or simply leave a comment on this post if you'd like.

Remember, in order to be considered eligible for this month's prizes, ALL creations must be positive, inspirational, motivational or encouraging in some nature. You don't need to follow the optional theme if you simply want to have a chance at the Random Draw prize of three images from SheepSki Designs, one of our guest sponsors this month. You only need to follow the theme if you want a chance to win an additional sponsored prize of a $15 gift certificate from Lunagirl, the second of our guest sponsors this month, for the project chosen as Most Inspiring.

Talking of our guest sponsors...

This month we have one returning sponsor and one brand new one! It is time to refresh ourselves with the details of the second, but first, let's get to know the newest one, shall we?!

First up is SheepSki Designs
http://www.imaginethatdigistamp.com/index.html
Hi I'm Andrea Norris, creator and owner of SheepSki Designs - living in Leeds, Yorkshire in the UK, working full time as a Management Accountant, currently working on 4 design teams and an obsessive crafter and creator of cards. I love anything arty. I've always drawn stuff, for as long as I can remember. In my younger days I sold a few watercolour paintings. I love creating canvases mixed media canvasses with flowers.

I finally found software I could gel with in December 2015. January 2016 a challenge team I worked on was short of a designer's images to create with so I drew some. I opened my shop a month later so I could sponsor challenges and give something back to the crafting world, to the lovely ladies who have supported me on my journey.

I've a Facebook group and blog where I hold challenges and I'm now starting to look at inviting guest designers.

Welcome to my world!
Andrea xx

Next, that brings us to

http://www.lunagirl.com/
My name is Karen, owner of Lunagirl Images. In 2004, after collecting vintage ephemera for most of my life, I started digitizing and restoring images and designing digital supplies for artists and crafters (my husband collected antique books and prints, so we had quite a house full!) We are proud to have been the first company to offer digital vintage image collections of this size and quality at prices affordable to the home crafter.

At Lunagirl.com (and in my etsy shop) I currently offer you several hundred unique digital collage sheets and dozens of themed craft CDs -- over 30,000 images so far! They are a great resource for card making, scrapbooking, jewelry making, and much more, easy to use, carefully researched and curated, all thoughtfully organized and lovingly cleaned up, ready to you to use in your projects. I love altering and embellishing these beautiful and fascinating images and seeing what my customers create with them.

In addition to digital art and design, I enjoy painting on wood, creating assemblage icons and shrines, reading history books, bellydancing, cooking, and sewing with my vintage Singer. I'm also blessed to be the mom of two teenaged boys.

If you're looking for something in particular in vintage style, feel free to email me at info@Lunagirl.com!

For our DT Delights chosen for this challenge...

Uma and Hélène

You are both entitled to one image of your choice from our on-going sponsor...

Please click HERE to check out the image previews. They are arranged into general categories; although, due to the nature of some of these images, they have been repeated in certain applicable categories. Be sure to click on the watermarks to bring them up into the lightbox for better viewing. Now, I apologize but unfortunately, the owner of CBD is MIA right now and her blog background needs some serious updating as her images are all out of Flickr 3rd Party Hosting.  As such it is extremely difficult to see anything on the blog. However, the jpgs themselves are fine and the name of the image is written right on the jpg so you should be able to see the names without a problem.

If you are interested in claiming a digi, please send me the name of the one image you want and let me know which section it came from. Send your request to popwinners {at} gmail {dot} com (be sure to replace 'at' and 'dot' with the appropriate symbols), or click HERE to bring our email up in your program, with the subject, "PoP#51-DT Delight Digi Request". I'm always running rather behind these days, so your patience is appreciated.

Additionally, you are all entitled to the special Challenge #51 DT Delight Badge which you can find below...

Be sure to join us on Monday, November 6th, to learn what the optional theme for Challenge #53 will be. However, don't forget that since there is an extra Monday this month, there are still two weeks left to link up your projects in our current challenge, with the optional theme of SURROUND YOURSELF WITH LITERATURE. Click HERE for details. I hope that you will consider coming over to play with us. As always, we'd love to have you join our Path!

Challenge #51--Optional Theme: SURROUND YOURSELF...with ART...Midway

Hello folks. It is the third Monday of the month and that means that it is time to present the midway for Challenge #51.

As we are a unique kind of challenge blog, please be sure to check out the START POST FOUND HERE, for all the rules and details you need to know in order to enter. For now, here is a refresher of what our theme is all about:

Challenge #51

Optional Theme: SURROUND YOURSELF...with ART
We have something different to share with you over the next three months and we hope you will all enjoy it. Katrina, one of my amazing team members has come up with a really intriguing concept. This fall our themes will be to Surround Yourself with Positivity in the form of the ARTS! Each month for the next three months we'll explore the positive influence of three different artistic concepts: Art, Literature and Music!

To kick it off we will start with Art! One of the best parts of having computers is having access to the works of the  artistic masters in our own home! We can google famous artists from Botticelli, Monet, or Rembrandt to Remington, Rockwell, or Noel and see their works! We can check out political cartoons, comic strips, and graffiti! We can also study sculptures, glasswork, and architecture.

Look around your home and consider what is hanging on your walls. Usually we choose to hang pictures or artwork that makes us feel happy and positive. Everything from our dishes to our furniture tells something about our artistic likes.

Now it’s time to walk around your house and really study what’s there. Check out some art on the web or in a museum. Turn in your paper to the comic strip. Find out what sort of art inspires you in a positive way! Then, if you would like a chance to win the prize for the Most Inspirational Creation, share your inspiration and project with us; we can’t wait to see what you create and learn about yourself on this journey!

Keep in mind, we are thinking about how different kinds of art affects us as individuals. It’s not really about doing something “visually" art related. For example, any positive image that reminds us of any piece of art works or we could use the style of a famous painter on any image. I've included a brief synopsis from each of the team members tying their projects into the theme so that you can see how they have interpreted this unique concept.

If you do follow the optional theme, be sure to add FT after your name so that we include you in the draw for the prize for Most Inspirational. Remember, we also ask that you please leave a comment letting us know how your creation relates to the concept of art and what you learned about yourself along the way, if it isn't clearly written somewhere else in your post. While you may easily see how your creation ties into the theme, it may not be as apparent to me or the DT members. That is why we ask that you clarify it somewhere, whether here or in your blogpost. You can simply write a sentence or paragraph at the bottom of your post next to the link up for this challenge, if it would be easier. We just need to know how your project ties into the theme. Letting us know, clears up any ambiguity that may exist.

Remember, in order to be considered eligible for this month's prizes, ALL creations must be positive, inspirational, motivational or encouraging in some nature. You don't need to follow the optional theme if you simply want to have a chance at the Random Draw prize of a $12 gift certificate from Bugaboo Stamps, one of our guest sponsors this month. You only need to follow the theme if you want a chance to win this month's sponsored prize of a $15 gift certificate from Lunagirl, provided by the second of our guest sponsors this month.

Talking of our guest sponsors...

To learn more about this month's guest sponsors, be sure to check out the START post; and of course, also visit the individual sponsors themselves. Below you will find the watermarks for the wonderful images that the team worked with for the midway. Just click on any watermark to find that image's location in its respective store.

To help inspire you further down the path of SURROUND YOURSELF with ART, check out the wonderful projects my Design Team had the opportunity to create. Don't forget that I have included a brief synopsis from each of the team members tying their projects into the theme so that you can see how they have interpreted this unique concept. Clicking on each team member's name will take you to their blog where you can check out further details on their inspirational creations...

Tie in to theme:
"I have made a card/picture inspired by a print of a needle felted wall hanging that I saw several years in a row at a local craft show. The piece is very 3D and very large. It was not for sale but even if it was I doubt that I could have afforded it. My eldest daughter surprised me at Christmas with the gift of a framed print of it. The picture is called 'Peace In The Valley' and the artist is Joan Prowse. If anyone is interested here is a link to her web site: http://www.joanprowse.co.uk/"

http://scrappyhorses.blogspot.ca

Tie in to theme:
"I really enjoy horse art whether it be Victorian horse art or wild mustangs running.  I love cowboys loping over hills to women riding sidesaddle in flowery meadows.  Horse shoes, leather saddles, signs, it's all in my house....yes, amongst the Victorian children and angels~ it's a bit eclectic!"

patacakespages.blogspot.com/

Tie in to theme:
"I created a set of note cards, inspired by the jumbled collection of vintage collection pieces and modern design in my home. I tried to incorporate that mix by adding a bit of modern embellishment to the vintage photos from one of our sponsors, Lunagirl".

Tie in to theme:
"I sprayed three canvases some time back with the same colour Dylusions Ink.  Managed to complete 2 of them and couldn't decide what to do with the third one.  I'm happy to add this one to the other two as it looks much better up on the wall as a set of three!"

Thanks again to my incredible design team! As always, each of them have their own unique styles and ideas which amaze me to no end. Each of these projects has showcased the concept of surrounding oneself with art, in various forms and manners and I hope we have inspired you throughout this challenge. Be sure to go and visit these talented ladies so you can see how their projects tie in to the theme.

Why not join us, if you haven't entered already? Create a project and/or post that is positive, inspirational, motivational or encouraging in some nature and join our link up. If you've opted to follow the theme of surrounding oneself with art, for the chance to win the Most Inspirational prize, provide an explanation of how your project and/or post relates to the theme somewhere in your post or come over and leave a comment with the explanation. Also, don't forget to leave FT after your name so we know to include you in the running for the prize. Easy, peasy! You can enter our latest challenge by clicking HERE.

Also, I know that the participants would love for you to go and pay them a visit. Remember we're creating a Path of Positivity to follow one project at a time and we'd love to see you somewhere on that route even if it is just by leaving a comment on an entry from someone who has touched you somehow with their project and/or post!

Don't Forget...

You have until 11:59 p.m. tonight to vote on your favourite entry for Challenge #50.  Voting is quick, easy and painless so I hope you will consider casting your vote if you haven't already. Winners for challenge #50 will be posted next Monday if everything goes according to plan. You can find the Top Picks post HERE.
