Ch. #114--Anything Goes POSITIVE with the Opt. Twist of: Design a Creation Inspired By the SEA

Hello everyone and welcome to the Path of Positivity Challenge Blog! It is the first Monday of the month, we're back from our break, and it is time for our latest challenge to begin! We hope that you and your families continue to stay healthy and safe out there.

Since we are not your typical challenge blog, it is important for you to understand how things work in order to be sure you are eligible to win any of the prizes offered. If you are new to this unique challenge, you can find out the impetus behind why I started it under the 'Introductions' tab and you can find out all the details you need to know in order to participate, in the 'Challenge Details' tab (both tabs located at the top of the blog). For your convenience, a summary of the most important rules can also be found in the right sidebar under the heading 'General Rules'.

Right now, it is time to get down to the business of our latest challenge. Here is what you need to know...

Challenge #114

Anything Goes POSITIVE with the Opt. Twist of

Design a Creation Inspired By

the SEA

This year's goal is to take a look at the things around us that can inspire us in our creative journeys. As such, if you would like to participate in the optional twist this month, we want you to Design a Creation Inspired By the SEA.

Oh, to bask in the power of the sea. Jacques Cousteau says it best: "The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever." I have to agree. Have you been lucky enough in your life to ever visit one of this planet's oceans? Or, are you one of the very lucky few that lives within a reasonable driving distance of one of your country's coast lines (granted your country has a coastline and isn't landlocked)? If you have ever visited the sea, you'll know of the power of which I speak. The most relaxing memories I have are all spent at the edge of water. The best of those next to an ocean. Don't just take my word for it though. "Brain imaging research has shown that proximity to water is strongly linked to your brain releasing feel-good hormones, including dopamine and oxytocin." No wonder, we feel so calm near the sea. Additionally, scientific research conducted by Richard Shuster shows how simply being close to the colour blue has led to “an overwhelming amount of people to be associated with feelings of calm and peace”. The simple act of looking out at the ocean can also result in a "relaxing, meditative state, and can even change the frequency of brain waves to match that of the sea, putting you really in touch with nature". The power of the sea indeed!

Think of how many artistic designs (or even books or movies) you have encountered in your life whether made by yourself or others that centred around the sea. As humans (most of us anyway), we are inexplicably drawn to spend time by the water's edge and that is showcased in the artwork around us. There is a quote by Robert Wyland that illustrates this point beautifully, "The ocean stirs the heart, inspires the imagination, and brings eternal joy to the soul." I couldn't have said it better myself!

If you want to follow the optional twist this month, be sure to feature the SEA in your project. It is time to show the world how the SEA has inspired you in your creative journey.

Remember, the twist is completely optional and you don't need to follow it in order to win. However, in order to be considered eligible for this month's goodies, remember that general types of projects/posts will not qualify for the honours and prize UNLESS they are also positive, inspirational, motivational or encouraging in some nature. Additionally, even if a project may qualify as positive, if your post promotes negativity, hatred or anything of an abhorrent nature, your project will be disqualified. Honours and Prize include:

  • $6 worth of images from Scribbles Designs, for a person chosen in a random draw based on all qualifying entrants.
  • A badge for the following honours: Top Pick, Voter's Choice, Most Inspirational, Random Winner, DT Delight.

My wonderful design team continues to outdo themselves time and time again! They each have their own style and clever interpretation of the twist. Even after all this time, I continue to be awed by the scope of excellence in their work! Each of these artful conceptions has showcased the notion of Being Inspired By the SEA wonderfully and I hope we have motivated you to embark on your own journey of creativity. Be sure to go and visit each team member so you can see how her project further connects to the twist.

So what are you waiting for? Create a project and/or post that is positive, inspirational, motivational or encouraging in some nature and join our link up. How about stretching yourself by also opting to follow the twist?! While it isn't mandatory, we'd also love to find out how this month's twist affects your own life. What memories or thoughts do you have when you think about the SEA? Does it inspire any of your creative journeys? You can write a sentence or two in the body of your post, write a sentence at the bottom of your post next to the link up for this challenge, or simply leave a comment on this post if you'd like. Finally, remember that we're trying to create a Path of Positivity so if you have some time, please visit other people participating throughout the month.

I hope to see you back next week when voting will [hopefully] begin on the Top Picks for Challenge #113. There will be a separate post detailing those picks where you will have the opportunity to vote on the creation or post that you have found to be the most positive, inspirational or encouraging of the chosen picks.

Then, be sure to join us again on August 21st when we'll be back with our midway featuring more great projects.
