Hello folks. It is the third Monday of the month and that means that it is time to present the midway for
Challenge #57. A quick thanks to Pat for helping me get this post out on time!
As we are a unique kind of challenge blog, please be sure to check out the
START POST FOUND HERE, for all the rules and details you need to know in order to enter. For now, here is a refresher of what our theme is all about:
This is the third month into our year long study of colour. If you are
new to the blog or this series, and you would like to review a more
in-depth explanation on how we are affected by colour,
its impact on us, the symbolism behind it, and the psychological effect
it
has on our everyday lives, you can find it by clicking
HERE and scrolling down to the Title, "
Theme Ideas for 2018".
For
now though, here is a refresher of what our current theme is all about:
Challenge #57
Optional Theme: SHADES OF YELLOW
What kinds of thoughts and feelings do you think of when you think about
the colour yellow? For some, the different colours of yellow bring
thoughts of warmth, light, happiness, and hope. Did you know that the
sunflower is the official symbol of ALS? After my husband passed away,
my daughter got a sunflower tattoo on her ankle in her dad's memory.
In studies, the colour yellow has been shown to resonate with
the left or logic side of the brain challenging our mental capabilities and creating mental alertness and awareness.
It is also associated with learning which is most likely why it is
often used in children's toys since it inspires thought and curiosity.
It is also know to create a jubilance for life and can help to awaken
greater confidence and optimism. That is probably why yellow gemstones
are believed to boost confidence and clarity in making
decisions. I'll have to remember that the next time someone want to buy
me a diamond ring (make it a yellow one, honey).
As yellow is the most visible of all the colours, it is great for
attracting attention. Most taxi cabs, school buses are yellow for this
very reason. It is also why it is used in pedestrian crossings and
in other areas of warning such as traffic signs. Due to its eye drawing
nature, the colour is also effective for highlighting certain passages
in text and in design.
See how easily the eye is drawn when highlighted with a bright yellow?! It is definitely a compelling colour for focusing the eye.
On the other side of things, the colour yellow can evoke thoughts of
sickness, weakness
or jealousy in some people. Too much yellow disturbs calmness in others,
especially
babies. Infants cry more in rooms painted yellow (weird but true). If
you are going through a lot of change in your life, you may find it
difficult to tolerate the colour yellow very well. As it is a fast
moving colour, it can cause certain levels of anxiety which can result
in feelings of agitation. Yellow is also sometimes associated with being
scared, with being a coward, or with the feeling of envy. You’ve
probably heard of the expressions, 'yellow bellied coward' , 'yellow
with envy', 'mellow yellow' and 'feeling yellow'; all deriving from
these negative connotations.
In terms of design, one has to be careful with yellows. They are
difficult to see against white. Additionally, certain shades of yellow
can become visually unappealing
because they loose their feeling of cheerfulness and become
dingy. As it approaches even darker shades it can become dirty and
unpleasant. As with everything in life, it is all about balance.
This challenge, our focus is on different
SHADES OF YELLOW. We want to see a project that is at least 51% of the overall colour
scheme. Your project doesn't need to be completely monochromatic so a
spattering of other colours
is fine. Just be sure that if you would like a chance to win the prize
for the
Most Inspirational Creation, over half of the colours in your project must be in the YELLOW spectrum!
The shades of yellow can be in the colours you choose to fill in your
images with, and/or they can be in your choices of papers and
embellishments. Just make sure that the majority of your project focuses
on the varying shades of the yellow family of colours. We can't wait to
see how
you explore the theme in your designs!
If you do follow the optional theme, be sure to add FT after your
name so that we include you in the draw for the prize for Most
Inspirational. While it isn't mandatory, we'd also love to
find out how this month's colour makes you feel, if you'd like to share
that with us.
What kinds of feelings does the colour
YELLOW personally evoke in you? You can write a sentence or two in the body of your post, write a sentence at the bottom of your post
next to the link up for this challenge, or simply leave a comment on this post if you'd like.
Remember,
in order to be considered eligible for this month's prizes, ALL creations must be
positive, inspirational, motivational or encouraging in some nature. You don't need to follow the optional theme if you simply want to have a
chance at the Random Draw prize of a $10 gift
certificate from
Limited Runs, one of our guest sponsors this month. You only need to follow
the theme
if you want a chance to win an additional sponsored prize of a $10 gift certificate from
Imagine
That Digistamp, the second of our guest sponsors this
month, for the project chosen as Most Inspiring.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE ON COLOUR...
If you need some motivation to get you started, I've provided a quote
for you, which you can find below.
Please note that the quote is being offered up with two different
spellings. While I spell 'colour' with a 'u', my American friends,
followers and readers are apt to spell it without one; so, I am
providing an option to cover both spellings of the word.
Please note that this is the same quote that was offered at the start of the challenge.

Fonts used
Click on the font names to take you to a purchase location.
The first one listed is a font family I purchased with extended
licensing. The second was a freebie that I picked up and wrote the
designer to ask for permission to use it commercially and was granted
said permission. It is my
understanding, that I am within my rights to use these fonts
in
my creations and offer them to others for free or for sale. Always
check to make sure the terms haven't changed before using the font on
something you sell.
You will notice that the sentiment may appear huge depending on what
software program you download it into. You can always reduce the size
without distorting the overall look.
